On June 4th, we went to London for our school trip. Even if we had to get up very early, it was an amazing day. We even got to see the Queen ! After leaving school at 6 o’clock, we headed to Calais where we took the shuttle. At 9 we were already in London. The driver showed us some of the famous buildings : The Millennium Building, also known as the O2 Arena, the Tower of London, Big Ben, the Gherkin and so on…When we got off the bus, we walked to Buckingham Palace to see the Changing of the Guard. That’s when we saw the Queen. Well, first Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles and then the Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh. Both couples were in their luxury cars. We also saw the Queen waving at us ! We were so excited ! How lucky we’ve been ! It was much unexpected. After that, we observed the Changing of the Guard. There was music and beautiful horses. There were so many people waiting for that ! Moreover, there were huge flags of England everywhere. Elizabeth 2 is preparing to celebrate the 60th anniversary of her coronation. Time flies by ! In four years, she will outdate Queen Victoria’s reign. Long live the Queen ! Then, it was time to have a picnic, so we walked back to St James’s Park where we enjoyed a lovely picnic under the sun. It was such a lovely day ! Some of us even treated themselves to ice cream ! Now it was time to discover the Royal Mews. It’s the place where the royal horses, royal motorcars and the state coaches are kept. We learnt a lot of things like one coach is used for coronations whereas another is used for wedding ceremonies. The highlight was the royal coach because it seemed to be coming right from a fairy tale. Indeed it was covered with gold. How impressive it was ! Next, we walked through St James Park before taking a little cruise on the Thames. Time to sit back and relax ! So we sailed past the London Eye, the Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe and under the marvelous Tower Bridge. It was one of the most memorable views of the day ! Finally we took the bus again and went shopping to Covent Garden, which is quite a hectic place with beautiful shops and street artists. We didn’t have a lot of time to spend there but we were able to buy souvenirs for our families. Unfortunately, it was time to return to France, and quickly go to sleep as we had to go to school on Wednesday ! Now I can’t wait to go back to London. Thank you for the wonderful trip, Mrs Guinot !
